Art Exhibit Pays Tribute To Secretariat

An exhibit by local artist Rebecca Pearl will appeal not only to the fans of her painting, but to those who love horses. The show, scheduled for the ArtistAngle Gallery, 124 S. Carroll St., will be June 9 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and is celebrating the racehorse Secretariat on the eve of the Belmont Stakes 50 years ago when the horse captured racing’s Triple Crown. Secretariat broke a 37-year dry spell of Triple Crown winners. Pearl has rescued trotters who are now on other careers as riding horses, and she wants the public to be aware of what can happen to many of these athletes if they are lucky to have another vocation beyond the track. For instance, they can do dressage, trail riding and English pleasure competitions. A group of paintings in the exhibit will speak to this.

“The paintings depict a variety of breeds and disciplines rendered in watercolor, oil and pastel,” Pearl says. “My favorites show the drawing, structure and anatomy of the horse beneath the paint.”

A portion of the proceeds from painting sales will help rescued horses with food, veterinary bills blacksmithing and the like. “We would love the public to stop by,” Pearl says. “We are having some Crown Rose Estate Rye whiskey samples, and soft champagne to celebrate our secondhand roses, the art and the mighty Secretariat’s 50th anniversary.” www.theartistangle.com
